Winning is an amazing feeling for any athlete. It’s a fantastic reward for all the hard work and dedication you put in to reach your goals.
But what happens once you have achieved success? Is it time to take a break or should you keep pushing yourself
In this blog post, we will explore why working harder after a big win can be beneficial to any high-performance student athlete striving for peak performance. We will look at ways in which adding to your effort could help refine your skills and propel you towards even greater success.
Take a moment to read on and learn how continuing hard work after winning big can be beneficial to athletes of all levels in the long run!
First you have to:
Celebrate the Wins - take time to savor and appreciate the victory, but don't linger too long
As a coach, nothing brings me more joy than seeing my players succeed. Whether it's a hard-fought victory or a small win in practice, taking the time to celebrate is crucial. It's important to acknowledge the dedication and hard work that went into achieving these victories, and to savor the feeling of triumph. However, we must also remember not to linger too long in these moments. The drive to keep improving and striving for even greater accomplishments should always be at the forefront of our minds. So, let's take a moment to appreciate our wins, but also use them as motivation to continue pushing ourselves to be the best we can be.
Don’t Get TOO Comfortable - use your winning energy to keep pushing yourself to reach new goals
Athletes, listen up! Don't get stuck in your comfort zone. Yes, it's great to reach a goal and celebrate, but don't let that positive energy go to waste. Use it to push yourself even further. When you build momentum from a win, that is the time to capitalize on that success and use it to build your confidence. Keep setting new goals and working towards achieving them. It’s up to you to determine where you want to be in a month, six months, or a year from now. Maybe you want to increase your stamina, improve your technique or smash some personal bests.
Whatever the goal, it's important to break it down into smaller, incremental steps so that you can track your progress and celebrate your successes along the way. Remember, setting goals isn't just about achieving results, it's also about pushing yourself to become the best version of yourself - both on and off the field. So, the next time you reach a milestone, don't let yourself get too comfortable. Instead, use that motivation to propel yourself even higher and reach new heights. Remember, the sky's the limit, so keep pushing!
Take Massive Action - what can you do differently or better now that you've won this round of success
Champions know that success is earned, not given. This means that you need to continue to work hard and strive for excellence in everything you do. Varsity and college coaches look for a well-rounded player that takes initiative and uses losses and WINS to improve their game. Think about how you can take your game to the next level, whether it's through refining your technique or pushing yourself to train harder. Remember, winning is just the beginning of a journey towards becoming the best that you can be. So, let's keep pushing forward and take action towards achieving even greater success!
Take Stock of Your Resources - assess what resources you have at your disposal, such as skills clinics/camps, mentors, or additional training
It's important to assess the resources you have at your disposal in order to continue growing and improving as a high-performance athlete. These resources can come in many forms, such as attending skills clinics or camps, seeking guidance from mentors, getting position specific training or adding customized personal training to your routine. For example, attending a volleyball skills clinic can provide you with valuable insights into specific ways to handle the ball or trying a different position to expand your skills. Seeking guidance from a mentor who has experience in your sport can give you a new perspective and allow you to learn from their past experiences (successes and failures). Finally, adding additional training to your routine, whether it's endurance training or strength training, can help give you an edge over other athletes. By taking stock of your resources and utilizing them effectively, you can continue to grow and develop as an athlete and achieve even greater success in the future.
After all is said and done, remember to always stay in the right mindset to reach success. Celebrate your wins, use them as fuel to help reach new goals, and take action on what you have learned from wins. Take stock of the resources you have available and identify the necessary steps that need to be taken to achieve your goals. Set smaller deadlines for yourself along with the bigger goal to give yourself achievable successes and help build momentum.
Refocus your energy on hitting those smaller wins every single day until you get there. There’s no rush or short cuts - it’s all about taking the time to strategize and plan properly so that when it is time to execute, everything is well laid out for success!
