If you are a high performance athlete, no doubt you are going to experience an injury at some point during your athletic career. While you don’t want an injury to stop you from playing, you have to be very careful not to further irritate the injury, or worse, push yourself too hard without taking precautions causing you to sit out a season in need of more intense medical attention.
You’ll want to treat your body just like an Olympic Athlete and learn how high performance athletes train their mind and body for success. Learn to model their meal plans, their practice routines and even sleep schedules – then immolate those strategies if your goal is to be a part of eXtreme sports. As a student athlete with dreams of winning games, tournaments or going on to play collegiate sports, you have to create an environment that will support the intensity and level of performance you want to achieve.
How to Prevent Injuries?
You are putting a lot of wear and tear on your joints and muscles so it’s important for high performance student athletes to take their overall fitness health very seriously. Some of the common mistakes made when injuries occur is lack of warm up, dehydration, poor form and not enough stretching.
Although many schools have incorporated strength and conditioning into their workout routines, failure often occurs in teaching young athletes proper form and technique. Schools don’t have the personnel to offer one-on-one support the athletes need to drill down on proper movements that promote form and prevent injury. Students are often left on their own in the weight room – potentially causing strains and injuries on the muscles and joints that could have been prevented.
Not only is proper form in the weight room a concern, many students leave stretching, ball handling, hitting and serving rigorously for the warm-up just before practice or games – combined with poor sleeping, eating and recovery habits and you have a recipe for potential disaster.
Ultimately, if you want to prevent injuries, you need to incorporate regular strength training, conditioning, eXplosive movements and one-on-one training when possible to correct form issues that help you target areas designed to strengthen your body as a whole. Finding expert fitness trainers is a must if you plan to take your game to the next level and prevent injuries through the club season.

But, What if I do get an Injury?
While we will make suggestions, you’ll always want to consult and follow the advice of your doctor or physical therapists if an injury occurs. Once approved by your doctor, VertiMax resistance, both on and off the platform, offers a unique form of training for an injured athlete and even helps prevent future volleyball injuries from occurring. As the player phases out of the treatment stage and into the rehabilitation stage, the resistance can help re-introduce sport specific movements at slow and controlled tempos, activating and engaging muscles that need development to reduce the risk of injury.
If you really want to stay strong pre-season, in-season and off-season think about a comprehensive approach to your year-round training plan. MaxxFIT Training Center for High Performance Student Athletes has specific sport training programs all year.
